Can't we all just... get along. AB has a thankless job and we should support him. The reason for doing this (OT) is a valid one which will be appreciated by anyone looking to search a topic down the road.

Remember the job of a moderator IMHO is not only to be an enforcer, but also a peace keeper. I know that's what you're trying to do and you're doing your (Altec) best, but it would go a long way to err on the side of apology (tempered with explanation if necessary) when criticized if there's even the slightest chance that you could have handled things better instead of erring on the side of being defensive as that will understandably be perceived as a failure on your part to appreciate complaints of members of our community. I am not telling you how to do your job, just a little "friendly" advice to a friend in need IMHO. When moderating, less is more. If it's a grey area, let it slide. If it's a blatant disruptive violation, handle with kid gloves and if criticized for how you handle those (hopefully) rare situations, don't get too defensive -- as that can come off as being dismissive and condescending.
As far as members who've left us like Brad (Bfish) or those who want to leave now like OG and Mah, I guess I'd say it takes a big man to forgive. I sincerely believe AB is doing his best/trying his hardest to be fair and do things right here. Yes, he's human and yes he's inexperienced as a moderator. I think if you guys give him a chance --including criticizing and coaching him when you think he needs it (hopefully in PM's), you can help him to learn how to be a phenomenal moderator. If everyone who has a beef with him PM's him with their objection and a clear recommendation of how he could have handled things better, it would be invaluable to him even if those beefs and recommendations aren't always "correct", some of them are bound to be and he'll get better and better at this. Our community can continue to grow and thrive instead of the alternative -- with members constantly jumping ship. If you guys can give AB a break here and give him a chance/help him to learn and improve I think you'll be happy you did and I think you'll see a steady improvement on his part. No one (IMHO) starts out a job like Moderator hitting home runs all day long, I sincerely believe his intentions are good and he'll be an awesome moderator --better and better all the time--if people can be patient and forgiving and coach him. I think part of his growth as a moderator will be a result of his learning from you guys/being open to your constructive criticisms/coaching. C'mon, help a brutha out--I think you'll see part of his improvement/growth as a moderator will be that he'll be more open to your input/help.....
man...bfish was a way cool dude. and any criticizism by 'the pros' is allways welcome to me... i'm sure its constructive, even given in exasperation to a dumbass like me. some folks are collectors, some are hobbyists, some with decades of experience that only years of experience can offer.

Yeah, it's part of the human condition IMHO that as humans, we're all a bunch of "knuckleheads" (but hopefully capable of at least learning something once in a while!). Hopefully folks can appreciate that when they think AB has goofed, yes he's a knucklehead, but he's OUR knucklehead! ;)Quote:

Since the topic WAS Altec related, the title should have been altered to reflect same, that is, suitability of Crown D75 for Altecs.
Maybe the moderators should have either done this, or asked the poster to do same.
Heavy handed moderation will only drive away those with opinions and views that the moderator does not agree with. I have seen this form of moderation on this board previously, to the detriment of the entire board.
We all know we have to have rules, but I agree with all the sentiments that this is all about the "Altecs". If ever I heard about a storm in a teacup, then this is surely it.
I suppose if anyone feels that strongly about it, then that's their prerogative. Come on guys, lets all cut each other some slack & get over this & get back to the business of Altecs!!
